This fall, Canpar Transport Ltd. awarded Norpak Handling of Port Hope, ON, a multimillion dollar contract to design, supply and install a state-of-the-art Turn-key Parcel Sortation System. This fully mechanized system will be installed at Canpar's new 125,000 square foot cross-dock facility in Montreal, Quebec and will place Canpar at the forefront of applying leading edge technology in servicing their customers.
Norpak's responsibility is for the overall system integration including the supply of conveyor equipment manufactured in their Port Hope, Ontario plant. The company will be working closely with chosen sub contractors, Sandvik Sorting Systems and SS Technologies, for the implementation of this highspeed system. The heart of the sortation system is a model SBIR-MD2D high speed cross belt sorter, over 1,100 feet in length, manufactured by Sandvik Sorting Systems, Italy and supported by the industry leading "Smart Sort" controls system designed and supplied by SS Technologies. The uniquely versatile system boasts a mechanical capacity of up to 13,500 parcels per hour and can gently handle parcels ranging in size, up to a 48" x 32" package weighing over 100 lbs. Scheduled to be completed by May 2002, this system is the first of it's kind in North America, setting a new standard for the package handling industry.
